This sculpture is carved in a high relief style, this s to capture the shadows and the expression of the male head. Working in ancient Limestone creates many challenges for a sculptor and this work is an example of creating an artwork to match the mood and texture of the piece of stone. This piece of stone has a large reef featuring many tiny shells that run through and across the face structure and nose. To accommodate this, I have over exaggerated the deep creases and depth of the man’s expression and features, resulting in a much more interesting and unique sculpture.
